What is DOMEmini

dome mini expander

Considered Phase 1 Orthodontics, DOMEmini is an treatment modality that uses an expander that connects to the palate only (not the teeth) and a limited course of synchronized aligners. This course of treatment, when indicated, is intended for children with mixed dentition. For kids who do not breathe well through their nose, have a small palates and may have large tonsils and/or adenoids. DOME mini creates a larger “DOME-shaped” palate for improved tongue space and a better bite. And since the palate of the mouth is the nasal base, we often see improvements in nasal breathing. By combining expansion with a limited course of aligners, we can start to unwind some of the orthodontic problems children have, making for an easier Phase 2 Orthodontics when the time comes.

Considered Phase 2 Orthodontics, DOMEmini+ is a treatment modality that uses a tad based expander that connects to the palate only (not the teeth) and a comprehensive course of synchronized aligners. This course of treatment is intended for children who have all their permanent teeth or will have them prior to the end of treatment.  DOMEmini+ is the kids version of DOMEzero. It follows a no -diasetma protocol and the goals of treatment are a DOME-shaped palate, beautiful smile, good nasal breathing, and improved tongue space. As with all of our expansion treatment options, we always recommend consultation with a myofunctional therapist – having proper tongue posture and function is an important part of helping ensure long term stability of treatment.
